If you are having difficulty with anxiety, a book I have found to be a particularly helpful resource is Dr. Edmund J. Bourne's book "Beyond Anxiety and Phobia. A Step-by-Step Guide to Lifetime Recovery." Dr. Bourne discusses multiple holistic and helpful suggestions which can be useful addendum for your recovery process. Dr. Bourne acknowledges these suggestions go beyond mainstream treatment approaches and suggests these additions to a comprehensive plan establish by collaboration between you and your therapist, or as a possible aid for recovery from anxiety which is mild to moderate (Bourne, 2001). What I like about the book is the author's holistic approach. He suggests, for example the effects of diet on anxiety; the helpfulness of developing one's spirituality and recovery; and addressing personality issues such as perfectionism; which can make it difficult to recover and remain in recovery from anxiety (Bourne, 2001). Dr Bourne contends that CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can and does address personality issues indirectly and is therefore an effective treatment for anxiety. But, he continues, CBT fails to address the emotional aspects underlying thinking errors, such as an underdeveloped sense of one's identity (Bourne, 2001).
